Am I a bad mom or are they nuts?

My local moms listserv has has a spate of emails lately about babies who are starting to crawl/walk/etc. and how often they fall. The moms on the list are asking for soft indoor helmets for the kids or where to buy the foam tiles to make sure the kids don’t get too many bruises.

The Child has learned to crawl and to walk on hardwood floors. She got bruises and bumps and it never dawned on me to put her in a helmet or on special foam flooring. It was just part of learning and growing.

Are they nuts? Am I a bad mom?

Well, it’s also true that some kids are a lot clumsier than others, and get knocked around pretty badly. And some kids are more upset by pain than others. And some people have granite floors or something. 😉

I never worried about that sort of thing either, and don’t plan to this time around either.

they’re nuts. i, too, had hardwood floors. my youngest learned to walk on ceramic tile. i childproofed cabinets, appliances, covered a glass top table with a fitted cloth [when they wanted to bang it] [i should have replaced the glass with wood but sometimes my girls would crawl under and make faces at me] kids fall on their butts. only time they fell on their heads was when they were pushed.

i did purchase foam flooring to put under one of those little tikes indoor playthings, under the slide area.
